Almost gave me a heart attack FuerteRav! :rofl:

I don't see the outer shell on these potted ones DC... so it does look possible. I think you're cheating... how many walks through the neighborhood did you have to take before finding that one?

And man! These things come out big/tall FAST! Waiting, waiting, waiting....

Lol.
I found this one in the canal five houses down.

Totally cheating. The canal is kind of a proving ground for coconuts. The bad ones sink and so if you see one a little gross and slimy it means it’s been floating a while and is a winner

A coconut can survive on only itself for 8-12 months. That’s a long time to float in the ocean if needed

Hey DC, I've decided to go back to the garden centre tomorrow. Do I need to get two for pollinating or are they self pollinating?
I'm still trying to grow my own but I'd love to see a real live coconut on a tree in my garden so I'm hedging my bets.
The garden centre ones have a smooth thick layer outermost and several big thick roots coming through that into the compost WW.
Hope they've got some left ....

DirtyCoconuts 04-04-2021 07:44 PM

I truly don’t know. I think they are self but there are so many around I would never know.

Sorry. I don’t want to lead you the wrong way. Get two. They will be friends

Managed to get to the garden centre again yesterday. I am now the proud owner of 2 coconut palms, yippee! Need to get some holes dug .....
I've nicknamed them DC & WW :rofl::rofl:

It seems that most coconut trees are cross pollinators, so yes, it would be a good plan to have 2. The exception appears to be the dwarf types which are primariliy self pollinating.

Your new plants look great!!!
