Default Climbing Fern

I've been looking for this plant for a couple years now, and finally I found it. I was bogging in Luzerne county PA and came across a large colony of American climbing fern, aka Hartford fern aka Christmas fern. I just wish I'd been quick enough with my phone to get a pic of the bear I spooked while he was eating cranberries. I tracked him for a good ways, but never did catch up with him after he bolted.

Good Lord Subrosa! Those ferns grow like crazy around my cousin's place. Pretty sure they're crawling around at my place as well, as I've transplanted many here.

And please don't track bears. Just sayin... Where's the head smack emoji.

It's listed as a rare species here in PA. Unless it's wounded there are no issues with tracking a single black bear, except of course actually finding it. A momma with cubs is another story!

Yes, Subrosa... not the tracking I was concerned with. It's the FINDING it that can be an issue.

Wrong time of year, but next spring I'll track you down some Christmas fern and send your way if you want.

Will do so in the spring! It's a Missouri native, and is everywhere... including my place now. I'll harvest from the woods. Ones I transplanted into my fern bed... I don't really want to disturb now as some have died down for year. You will have to help me remember!!
