Trip to Chadwick & Son
I would very much like to go to Richmond, Virginia to visit Chadwick & Son's nursery and retail store. I would like to plan a trip this summer. It's about a 20 hour drive from Dallas to Richmond. I'll do it alone if I have to, but I'd much rather have a friend with me, but I'm having a hard time finding anybody willing to drive 20 hours to look at plants.
That being said, I would also be interested in stopping at other places along the way. Other orchid nurseries, botanical gardens, things of that nature. Does anybody know of any other orchid nurseries or botanical gardens between here and Richmond? It looks like I'd be taking I30 through texas and Arkansas, and then get on 40 in Memphis, get on interstate 81 in Knoxville, then get on 64 in Fisherville, Virginia, and 64 will take me to Richmond. Anybody know of any interesting stops I may make along the way?
For that matter, if anybody wanted to join me, I can comfortably sit 5 people in my truck.

If it's just me and one or two other people, the back seats fold up, and the plant or two I decide to pick up while I'm there will be safe in the cab. If I end up having to put them in the bed, I guess I could bring some of those big plastic bins with lids. You know, for the one or two plants I'm sure I will buy.

A friend of mine told me about this place in Richmond that looks really cool. I'd love to go there if I end up going to Richmond:

I'll need another big rack with flourescent light fixtures. Another rack will give me more room that I need for the plants I have now, which of course means that I'll have room to buy even more!

I'm still trying to convince somebody to go with me. I feel like I would do it alone if I had to, but if it actually comes down to that, I may change mind and not go if I have to go by myself.

No pressure JS. No pressure. There will be a time. It could be soon, or could be later. But it will be happening.
In fact, one less person in the car (or even no one else in the car) will definitely mean more space for the merchandise.

Members of our Orchid Society have gone to Redlands and other shows together in the past and often people ask around if anyone wants to share a ride to this show or that open house. I never go because I have limited space as well as limited ability to resist buying orchids.

A gooigle search just revealed to me that there is a North Texas Orchid Society that meets in Plano each month (Plano is not too far from me). They are not currently holding meetings because of the plague, but hopefully if they start holding meetings again soon and I can meet some people. I spend a lot of time in Brazil, and almost all of my orchid friends are there. I don't really have any orchid friends in the US, let alone Texas, so I should start going to those meetings. Maybe somebody there will want to go to Richmond with me.
