I worked as a nurse from age 20 until I was 72. And I miss working. Ms D and I are volunteer friends, coordinating a free legal clinic in our District Court for the past 7 years. We only see each other once a month.
When she called me in a panic, knowing I am a hospice nurse and said her mother was close to death and at that point, she was the only one helping her mother.
She was driving the hour and half to Santa Fe and did not ask but I told her, " I am coming." And I stayed until I knew she and her niece were able to care for MamaCita.
Hard to explain, but I felt I was blessed to be there giving. Other medical persons or those who have experience having a loved one needing hospice will understand.
Three months passed, and she was so excited to gift me the Phal. Then self isolation from covid happened and it was postponed. but yesterday we gifted each other with orchids, the Golden Treasure and the mini phal Little Spirit, exchanged at my mailbox.
Little things, like calling to check on friends also in isolation, means a lot. Several have called me, knowing at age 78 how vulnerable to the virus I am. I am fine, not afraid for myself but concerned for friends that have little kids school age. And another, age 85 who totaled her car, probably from fear.
Even the little things we do for each other, means a lot in the time of global crisis. And
ORCHIDS RULE.
Orchids Rule!
