posting reply to private message
I have already pointed this out but to me it's annoying .
When one replies to a private message on this forum it does not get saved.
There is an option to save it under advanced but you need to know this and click on advanced options every time in order for your message to be visible.
I mean imagine we had that feature on our forum board. Standard option of not displaying whatever one has posted. If you wanted anybody else including yourself to see the post you should have clicked on advanced - super advanced options - really really advanced options - secret options - DISPLAY POST

This forum is not a common one, i.e., any changes in its features I believe are not possible.
This forum was created by Marty, someone who has been kind enough to let it exist (literally) but very difficult to reach.
I believe it's annoying but hard (if possible at all) to change.

I find that annoying, too, but, as said, we are lucky right now just to have this forum. I joined when Marty was still active and there was still ways to change things but that time seems to be long past. Marty probably completely lost interest in orchids but has been very generous.

I don' know if I'm dense or what, but I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I was assuming that you meant that replies to PMs don't get saved, but since there's a 'sent' folder where they all end up, I don't think that is what you mean...
Yes, this forum is running on massively outdated software and nothing has been done to it in years. Marty's business keeps him really busy, but lI'm gratful that he has keep the forum up and running at all.

My experience with PMs is that, yes, they are saved in my User CP......BUT, if I am the last one to send a reply, that last reply is not saved. So no matter how long the chain is, just one PM back and forth, or many, it's possible the last one won't be there. Now, if the other party is the last one to participate, that is there for me to see, but not if I'm the last one to participate by writing to them.
I'm not sure what the OP is referring to about advanced options.
It is annoying when participating in a private conversation that the entries by each person are shown as a quoted chain, for lack of a better word, just quotes within quotes within quotes, instead of just showing each person's reply as a successive post, but it is what it is, and I'm just grateful we have the Orchid Board at all.

If the replier delete the from the text, I believe it won't be shown.

Then again, there's always the option if one wishes to carry on lengthy conversation with someone to exchange email addresses.
Outdated software perhaps, but it's free, and contains a wealth of information that would be likely impossible to save in its entirety without a ton of work and expertise. I am very thankful that it is kept running, both by Marty and the volunteer admins who keep it going.

It is that last reply that I am on about and it is a matter of a tick to change it but I did not realize this board had no active admin to do so.
Shame but yes glad the forum is here too.
PS: when it comes to orchid forums, most others are actually far worse in their functionality!! Atleast that is the only annoyance I have here
