Great forum this one SouthPark!
On our island we have a waterfront that is open to the S/E to N. So we get nice cooler breezes afternoon evening from the N/E & S/E.
We are a bit cooler here in summer and a bit warmer here winter. Our micro climate is a very small area and will grow colder liking and hotter liking plants. A nice half way sub tropical type climate. Very different than the mainland close by.
My orchids love it here and we are getting some remarkable results growing Tillandsia. Have to be careful of the Tillandsia that do not like humidity though.
Our whole large block of land will be covered with shade cloth by the time I am finished with it here. Using solid cloth to control the water my plants get in most areas.
Have a very interesting large collection of Platycerium both stags & elks. Have just stopped buying the hard to grow types as they need to grow a certain amount before they will over winter here. Elks like compacta we can take very small plants any time of year but the tropicals need to have a bit of size to them before the end of the growing season.
