Unhappy Google Ads

Hey guys, I added google ads after the 1st post. I have to get OB to pay for itself somehow, scripts, premium mods, custom scripting and hosting... I'm still long way before I'll see the 'break even' horizon

If it bugs you guys, I'll remove them. Not sure if that will result in any clicks, but won't know unless I try.

Marty

Hey Marty, Have you tried to get Andy's orchids to become a sponsor? They do it for Dendroboard! And after so much business we have been giving them......

I tend to avoid google ads, since most of the time they're not legit or really related to what I'm looking at. but I can kinda tune them out so I don't mind them, wherever you put them.

you'd be surprised how many ppl do click them though when something catches their eye...actually, I typically tune them out myself, but on occasion something will lure me to follow an ad link - sometimes they're very well targetted. True, on a flip side, sometimes you'll get junk

Marty, how much money do you get from each click? If it's something that would make a difference, I'm sure all the members would be willing to take a second to click here and there.

Few cents here and there, but it quickly ads up.

Scott, according to google adsense rules I cannot tell anyone to click my ads or funnel/force people to click'em. If I do, I'll probably be banned. They also have some scripts running checking for fraud. Clicking like mad from the same IP will surely raise a flag somewhere. Therefore I state officially, I am not 'authorizing or encouraging' you to click the ads on OB

Hi Marty. When I first saw them yesterday, I was thinking "SPAM!!!", but then realized that it was something you had done. If it helps you in your efforts to keep this board running, then I'm all for it.
I plan on sending a thank you card to Andy's for all the help they've offered us on the project, I could mention an ad to them.
By the way, on our orders, where it asks for Special Instructions, we all entered www.orchidboard.com
It is now on the bottom of all of our invoices, which means it's passed through a few hands, including the shipping company...maybe we'll get a new visitor or two.

I don't see the ads either... Could be because I'm using Firefox and I have ad-blocker fine tuned to a customized 'annihilate' setting.

If money becomes a problem, I'm sure a lot of us would be happy to chip in a few bucks... Just ask.

The ads should be under the 1st post of every thread. They're pretty small so everyone should be able to live with them.

littlefrog - I refuse to be harassing members about donations. Hopefully we will get to the point where there will be enough sponsors to have OB running comfortably with enough funds for various improvements and tweaks.... although having a visible 'donate' button somewhere on the website probably wouldn't hurt. Let me see what I can come up with !

CB - thanks for the plugs.
