Please don't be hesitant about posting to this forum. That is why Marty put it together for us, and it took a lot of work to get it started. If you have any questions at all about how to use the forum, please let me know, I'll be happy to help you. Marty is also great about helping with any problem you may have. We're all here to help each other, have some fun and maybe learn something in the process...
If you have a question about a plant that isn't growing well, or if you want to brag about a plant that is outstanding...go for it!!! This forum is meant as a way for us to communicate with each other, let's put some effort into it, okay???

I think that especially applies to the more experienced growers...I've seen introductions from people with 100+ plants that they've been growing for many years, but then they don't post anything after that. I want to learn from all their experience, but can't if they don't speak up! At least a picture or two...please?

Scott, if you asked them some specific growing questions, it may draw them them into our conversations...give it a try. Somebody's bound to answer

So far all my questions have been answered very well, and I thank everyone for that. I just think it would be cool if the experienced people would volunteer a little more info too, like posting more photos of their collections, setups, or new plants.

If I'm one of those experienced people, I apologize for being a bit quiet lately. Still recovering from a very long month of 'real work'. I've been reading most everything, just not replying much.

Plus, this month sucks in the greenhouse. Nothing interesting in bloom right now.

Maybe someone ( ) could start a thread that would get some interaction going...like asking for a list of plants, or growing techniques for a particular type of 'chid. The possibilities are endless. Some people (and you all now who you are ) just enjoy reading what the others have posted but feel funny about contributing. Every person on this board is growing orchids...they've got to have questions or even moments of glory that the rest of us would love to hear about...
come on, folks...we don't bite

This is the best run orchid board on the web. But, as you say, nothing much gets posted here. I wonder if the board is too structured and consequently intimidating for newbies like me. I also have a problem finding new postings. They seem to be all over the place, and I stumbled across this thread by chance.

I do however, grow a thousand orchids, and have two bookcases of orchid books. I can help with specific queries.

Here's my Dendrobium thyrsiflorum for starters.

Here's a link to a thread everyone should post in. EVERYONE!!!!

I agree that the forums can be a bit unwieldy, especially for someone who is less computer savvy. Would having a smaller number of subsections make life easier? Maybe instead of splitting so many subsections for species, split by alliance? I mean...do we really need a separate folder for Laelia and one for Cattleya?

Thanks in advance to everyone!

That's exactly what Dave and I are working on. The species section will be reduced. We will try to simplyfy things a little and remove the little used forums or merge them into other forums. Any other suggestions?
