Server Issues

I've noticed it's been slow the last couple of days. Pages will load but down on the task bar it will show it's still trying to load stuff, and never really finishes.

Me too, but not always. It's inconsistent. Marty we sure are picky, eh?

Oddly enough, I practically have no problems, so I can't tell you if it's better or not!! Everything runs smoothly 99% of the time so I was kind of surprised at the problems people have.(Does it have to do with the fact that I'm not in the USA??) Every couple days it will be slow for a few minutes (pages take longer to load), but it rarely lasts more than 5 minutes.

Hm... I think we should all move to France The loading thing might be google ads, so I'd ignore that, as long as the main content of the page loads that's all that counts.

I'm wondering how much connection speed is figuring in all this. I'm still on dial-up and on an older computer. This site is slower than some for me, but no worse than my bank or TV Guide for example. The slowest functions here are posting a reply or a new thread. And I do notice that it can vary a lot depending on the time of day.

I was wondering the same thing. I heard that the EU has faster connection speeds than the USA,(could be wrong seeing how quickly this stuff evolves!) so maybe that partially explains why I have no problems with OB. Right now my connection speed is 100 mega.

Mine exceeds 100Mbits on most sites. I have highest speed DSL (I live only three blocks from the main telephone hub where it all comes from.) Most stuff flies, and Orchid Board is very quick most of time, but I also wonder on browser, Operating System, CPU, how well PC is tuned for the web, etc. There are lots of issues. Besides these, the Orchid Board is probably the most complex board I frequent. Many of the others just drewam of doing the things Marty has already done and they are starting to experience some of the same pains with a fraction of the traffic. I, for one, am happy with things the way they are (most days.)

I'm on Gigabit, directly patched into a fiber line though only at work

Interesting to see that most of the people are on high speed..only about 10% of orchid boarders are on dial-up.

also interesting are the demographics, mostly North America
