Default Confused about Photo Posting

And I think I might not be the only one.

Not sure where I should be uploading photos. I posted a photo in my gallery but not sure anyone knew about it. Then I saw others posting under certain genera. Should we post there, or in the species forum.

(you asked for suggestions Marty)
Speaking of the species forum, what about re-naming it "Genera" or "Genus Specific" that way people don't think it is just species, but could also pertain to hybrids.

Just a thought.
Thanks!

Marty,

Along similar lines, can photos be embedded in a post, or do they reside in the gallery and need to be linked to in a post?

I hope the former, because I know I tend to gloss over links. Pretty pictures, with some background info usually stop me dead in my tracks, however!

Heather: The Species Forum should only be for species, there is another forum right above it "hybrid discussion". If you guys would like things organized a bit differently, let me know. We figured before it would be species & hybrids, but I'm willing to change if it will help organize the info better

as for pictures, I'm not sure I get what you mean... Typically, you put stuff in your gallery that you use in your posts. I mean, you can keep an album of your favorite stuff, it's up to you.

Julie: Yes, you can embed photos. You can do this in one of few ways. You can embed pictures from other websites (provided it's your pic, so you don't violate any copyrights). You can also embed a pic from our gallery or you can upload a picture with the post as an attachment. Click on "GO ADVANCED" below your edit window

Hmm, okay, I see that - but there are SO many species categories, and yet they aren't species, they are genus, so I dunno, maybe I am splitting hairs?

re: photos. Now I'm confused! lol!
If I want to just show off a photo and have people see it, where should I post it? It doesn't seem as though the galleries are as frequented as the forums. Does that make sense?

Edit - I guess what you are saying to Julie is, upload it in the gallery and then link it into a post? Let me go try that.

You can also upload it as an attachment. Be sure to link the picture that is smaller in size. Large pictures break the layout of the forum

One more question -
Should plant photos be in the particular species forum or in the Orchids in bloom forum? Sorry, just want to make sure I am doing the right thing.

All my pics go into my albums and I insert a link in a post as needed. The gallery seems to get a lot of traffic - I have 129 photos with 12330 views!

Dave, most of those hits are me. I just keep looking over the galleries over and over.

I like to keep my photos in the gallery here, but if I wanna show off, I hit the advanced reply button, hit the insert image button, and paste the http address from the properties on the photo. And then I pray its not too big so Marty doesn't get mad at me, .
I just recently figured this out , and am now sharing the info like a 3 year old does when he/she learns the first 10 numbers (2, -2, 1, 10, 9, 7, 4, 0, 5, 6, -42).

Anyhow, I would recommend everyone post photos in the forum itself after putting them in the gallery, just to make the place more interesting than it already is. Keep a copy in the gallery so the photos never dissapear from the forum.

I've tried to follow the instructions in putting a signature link to my photo gallery but I don't believe it is working. Can anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Shirley
