Default Asking new members to Introduce themselves

Good day all,

As you may all know often times when a new member makes a post older members ask them to post in the breaking the ice forum. As one of our members pointed out earlier this may be taken as criticism that the member has done the wrong thing by posting before introducing him/herself.
I suggest that from now on, we be more careful and make sure we say things like:
If you would like, it would be nice if you posted an introduction in the breaking the ice forum to get to know everyone. Or something to that affect. It must be made clear that it is up to the member to post there, and yet make them aware that they can post there.
Thanks all.

If I remember correctly I became a member before I made a post(I don't remember why). I received a email from the OB inviting me to post to break the ice but if I perferred to jump right in. I don't think I ever posted to the introduction myself.

That suggestion would require us to go read all the intros...I can't get through the active posts. Not being rude, just can't squeeze it all in...

absolutely! Member introduction isn't by any means a requirement at OB. If you feel like diving right into discussion without introducing yourself feel free to do so.

honestly, on other forums where I participate I never introduced myself and just ask whatever I want to know. Initially OB never had a 'break the ice' forum, it was created because a lot of the members felt the need to introduce themselves - which is also perfectly fine by me.

Either way if you want to introduce yourself, we have the forum for it, if you want to remain anonymous and be known as XR5239 also fine. What's important is that the river of Orchid info flows unobstructed for all members.
