I hope you're right. I took a good look at the phal last night, and there are some nice roots growing, which is encouraging, because when I got it, there were no roots, just brown husks I had to anchor the plant in with rocks, and be very careful with it. Now it was doing so nicely and I went ahead and ruined it's leaves.

I was reading somewhere that cutting off the stem completely stimulates leaf growth, so I'm wondering if I should do that...right now I have the stem trimmed past the second node. I'm thinking I should just leave well enough alone, it's the waiting for a growth period that's driving me nuts. If there's anything I should be doing to either one I want to know what it is now, instead of waiting a few months to see if they are going to make it.

I guess that's the thing about having orchids, is they are teaching me patience

Marty I must ask ... does the mind rest What a great idea, hope all will enjoy the use of the little icon.

Erin, will make way to the "break the ice" thread and give you a warm but must add ... patience is of virtue and seems to me we leave the patience to nature. I have to keep remembering how that pot never boils if I keep-a-watchin' it

I think part of the problem is where I live currently, the only places I know about getting orchids are at the supermarket/home improvement stores, which from the little I do know about orchids, do not sell the healthiest of specimens. And then when something goes wrong, I end up scouring the internet, instead of being able to go to a local store for advice. Plus, since I'm often in transition, and have little stability in my life, it's best not to put too many plants into shock by moving them every few years. Hopefully once I settle down I'll be able to broaden my collections.

Here is a start -
OrchidWire - Genus
Just pick a genus and it will bring up sites of growers.
This site is great just to get an idea of what a particular orchid may look like
Orchid Photos and Information | Orchids Online

One thing about 'orchidteers' is that we love to encourage one another
