Anyone else noticed the new feature to 'Like' other people's posts!
I've just noticed that you can now 'Like' other people's posts just as you can on facebook.
I remember only the other day someone saying they wish you could do that. I'm sure the feature wasn't there when I was last on OB yesterday afternoon GMT.
It seems to have appeard overnight so I guess Marty has applied a software update. Thanks Marty!

Hi, Yes, I noticed it yesterday (and thought of the same post you did I reckon!) - time to start doing a little 'liking'

Yes, I saw your 'like' on something.
I think this is a great way for those who like looking through the orchid pictures but don't comment because "then I would be commenting all the time" to just press the 'Like' button and show their apreciation of the picture.
It's also a great way to show you agree with someone's comment.
As for me... who does "comment all the time" I'll probably use both, tick the like and when I've got more to say about why I like it post a comment... which will probably be most of the time knowing me

I think it would be a shame for people to get less comments as a result, but great if it leads to a greater show of apreciation for people's pictures.

... *Humph* I must've been impersonated by someone... I haven't clicked one yet! But, in the spirit of experimentation, I shall try it now with yours

I can understand why both facebook and here don't have a dislike. They think it would mean people using it to be nasty to others. Examples...
"Great News - I'm having a baby"
"I'm so excited my Masdevallia is flowering for the first time".
In both cases allowing a 'dislike' is inappropriate.
However sometimes a dislike is an apropriate responce and a 'like' is inappropriate. Examples...
"My dog had to be put down earlier today"
"My favorite Phalaenopsis has scale"
I believe facebook have resisted the dislike because of the first type of examples, but I'm not sure they have thought through the second type where a like is just as inappropriate.
Maybe when someone posts things they should be able to choose if Like, or Dislike is the apropriate responce... but I don't think anyone would remember to change the setting and it would be more hassle than it's worth.
Anyway... I think it's a great step forward having the like button here

There is also a new tab on your user profile for 'Likes Receieved'
[Edit] Although it doesn't aways show. In your 'Mini Statistics' on your profile there are 'Number of likes received' and 'Number of Likes Given' and if you click on the number received you get to the tab showing them. [/Edit]
