A couple of further thoughts, which may be a little to one side of the main ones, but still related...

1. I think that this should replace the existing 'My Orchids' list rather then have both. Entering everything in both places would be a pain and having some people with them in one and some in another would not make the best use of it. However their could be the technical difficulty with that, of whether you remove people's existing lists as you are very unlikely to be able to convert them. (I work in software and a major consideration for me is always how I move customer's existing data from it's current format to how I want it formatted in a new version). Personally I would be happy to loose the existing field and enter everything in the new DB... but then I don't have as many plants as some folks.

2. Not sure if it's possible but an import of the data from a CSV file would be good (save typing for those with the data already entered somewhere). Not sure if OrchidWizz has an export from it's list of orchids, but as that's one of the most popular bits of software then if an import was possible then matching it's format would be the most useful. Those with lists in Excel or other spreadsheets could then save it as CSV and re-jig the fields to import it. Again I don't have that many so don't mind re-entering, but if I could just import from my spreadsheet it would help and would help those with more orchids even more.

Anway, not sure they are practicle ideas but thought I would mention them just in case it's possible.

Regarding #1 - Yes the old list will be gone. It's just a test field and doesn't hold info beyond the names. If you want your list, be sure to copy it to your PC.

Regarding #2 - there is no import feature, so everything will have to be entered. I know it may be a pain for some of you.

OK, thanks Marty. Great on #1, having a searchable database will be so much better than just a text field like the existing one. #2 was just an idea and no problem if it's not possible.

Really looking forward to this.

Could it somehow be linked to our OrchidWiz plant list? It would be easier for me to keep one database up to date and upload the info, rather than two separate databases.

Here are the fields in my Orchid Journal

Alliance (I match the OB Alliance List)
Genus
Abbr (very useful for tagging)
Epithet
Hybrid Name
Cultivar Name
Light
Temperature
Bloom Cycle
Notes (this is where I put who, when, how much etc)
Propagation

I think this is a great idea!

I also keep track of how much I paid for the plant and where I keep it in the summer and in the winter.

If this is to be searchable, perhaps we could also check how we are growing ie lights, greenhouse or al fresco; it might also be interesting if there were separate fields for a photo of the plant (unflowered) and the flower (This would be especially useful for some of the oddball species that we all seem to grow, as well as cv. of neofinetia, moniliformes & Jenosa branch cymbidiums...)
Just my 2 cents
