Well all pages loading fine now. Thank goodness. And just in time for me to make 400+ posts before midnight

And I wasn't able to get on the site until now, I tried at 50 mins ago... 10 mins till the contest is over I give up on getting second place
I always thought slippertalk was fast to load because of it's lack of all this fancy stuff here and there. ST has a very bland looking webpage, but works well.
I agree with Todd, Slipper Orchid Forum can be bad too.
OrchidTalk hasn't given me problems yet though and they have tons of fancy web design things here and there.

Smartie, sorry you had trouble. The order for a dedicated server is in, hopefully we will remedy the situation soon. I don't want to strip any features from OB to make the site more functional, I hope that getting better hosting should do the trick. The gallery and attachments are actually what accounts for most of the bandwith usage, we have over 4000 photos, some pretty high resolution in the member gallery. One way we could do it is to prevent unregistered visitors from being able to view attachments and gallery and we could probably live on the current hosting a bit more, but I'd hate to do that to our guests.
lets wait and see what the new setup will bring - they're building our machine as I write I'm pretty excited!

Marty, it's interesting that today the board has been pretty snappy. Have you (or the server people) logged the days when gallery traffic is high compared to days when things are slow? Today the post counts have been low, but yesterday they were high. Hopefully the dedicated server will tell the tale. By the way, can anyone now say Orchid Board is NOT the top orchid board? Who else needs a dedicated server for an orchid board? Way to go. Onward and upward I say

On a shared host it's hit and miss, one of the other sites might have been jamming the pipes. Things can also be better in the off peak hrs, etc
I'm hoping we will see a much more reliable connection in a few days. It probably won't be instant but I hope that it will be much better and more robust then what we have now

Things seemed to work OK earlier today, however, when I tried logging in at 6pm PDT it took so long to load pages I gave up. It's now 11:24 pm and there were 31 people viewing the boad, 27 of whom were guests. I logged in a little after 11, read 1 post each in 2 threads and posted here. That's roughly 20-25 minutes. I have high speed internet. LOL, it reminds me of the bad old dial up days. Maybe until the new dedicated server is built some of the whiz bangs could be temporarily turned off. On another board they turned off avatars, and smilies and that seemed to help in the short run. Thanks Marty.
