Second thing I noticed I'm not so thrilled about. I'm not sure if I'm missing something or the program actually doesn't have a way to enter unregistered hybrids or NOIDS. I think there should be a way for us to enter our Miscellaneous plants. I emailed Alex with my question.
Still have lots of searching and clicking to do but I'm excited about it

Alex is SO good about answering his email! Here's his response to my question...

Susanne,
I'm working on a way to add unregistered hybrids into the journal and believe this will be available as part of the September update. I was not able to add this functionality in time even though I had planned to, originally.
NOIDS will take longer but eventually I plan to handle them as well.
Best regards,
Alex

Alex is great!
So Sue, how many hours is it going to take you to enter all your orchids? You have quite a list!

What I have now is a handwritten list which sits on my desk With not having to really do too much typing, I figure I can do a few each time I sit down at the computer and feel up to it.
If all goes according to plan, I should be done sometime in 2014

Don't forget all the orchids you are going to get between now and 2014! By the time you finish entering the list as it stands in July '09, you'll have a couple hundred more to add after that!

This from Ron McHatton at AOS, received on June 23:
Dear AQ Plus Subscribers:
I had really hoped by now to be sending a note to say that the June updates were on the way. Unfortunately, the best laid plans usually don't turn out as we had hoped.
We are making progress although we are not as far along as we would like to be and it's important that I keep you informed of the status. The June update contains a couple of significant changes (the ability to access the images for educational, noncommercial purposes and the elimination of the case sensitivity of the searches among other things) and unfortunately we discovered a serious Vista incompatibility apparently linked to Vista security protocols. The March update did not experience the problem so this is evidently connected to these recent programming changes. The program updates (or loads for new installations), and runs without complications on XP machines but not on some Vista machines. Rather than distribute the update along with a cumbersome, interim fix for Vista users, Howard Bronstein is working on a solution to the problem and we are not sure how much longer it will take.
I'll keep you informed of the progress and we hope it will not be long before these can go to duplication.
Regards,
Ron McHatton, Director of Education

I spent a lot of time yesterday feeding in over 100 orchids from my list. I did input some details but I will use my records to input more details as I find time. I have a lot of unnamed crosses which frustrate me. I guess I will have to wait until September and hopefully the update will give us more selections to work with.
I still want to figure out how to make 2 records, 1 only for slippers.
I haven't deleted my Excel files yet. I also have a WordPerfect sheet on each of the plants I have purchased. I have a lot of details in each file, with pictures. Even if I switch to OrchidWiz, I will continue to make up a sheet for each new purchase. I print out each separate sheet and file them in a ring binder. Lots of work, but luckly all the plants I have now are already finished and filed.

Yay! I got mine today, that was fast! What a nice surprise to come to after an 11 hour journey. Too tired to install it tonight, but tomorrow I'll have fun!
