I wholeheartedly agree, Sue. Anything orchid related should be viewable by all and not part of a private social group that has to be joined to be able to benefit from them. As a person who is somewhat computer challenged, I can say I really like the original way of posting and viewing threads. Maybe just add a couple new thread options instead of these private social groups. Anything that you have to join within the OB joining, smells of segregation which is not what Orchid Board is all about. Just my

So if we get rid of the orchid groups, can we consider having a 'wild orchids' forum please? There is absolutely nowhere to post about our endemic orchids. Unless there is not enough interest in such a forum...

That's a good point. I also like the Wild Orchid or in situ forum idea.

Whatever the group decides, I'm with ya!

I'm OK with the Social groups going. As I posted in the wild orchid hunters group. Wild orchids are not really represented in the main forums so a Wild Orchid forum sounds great to me too! Thanks Camille for suggesting it.

Marty doesn't always have the time to check in and read through all the threads...

if anybody wants something specific, such as a Wild Orchids forum category, an email or PM should be sent to Marty explaining what you would like to see on OB.

Well, now I've read all this (and thanks Sue for redirecting me) I'd like to have my .

I have enjoyed very much being in the Succulent and Cacti Social group, and this explains why no one has answered my last few posts in that - you've all been too busy discussing its death I hope very much that it will continue as a new forum in the Off Topic group.

I also joined one other, but I agree it is duplicating to discuss orchids in a sub set which is not available to all viewers. Which ties in with my third thought about newbies asking the same questions repeatedly - well, we were all newbies once.

When I first posted on this board I had never had a conversation with anyone over the net except by e mail with people I already knew and you guys were so welcoming I never felt stupid, just curious. As for doing research, don't you think that the younger people are not so keen on looking in books or fact sheets? The other problem I have with my orchid books is that some of them have been picked up second hand and are very old - sometimes information is either ambiguous, conflicting or just plain wrong - products available change, methods change etc.

That's my thoughts, glad to be able to share and hope that Marty will keep Cacti and Succulents going for us.

Thanks
Heather

Yes, I want the social groups that are not redundant to stay. I'm sure my Aroids (Spathe and Spadix) group will pick up as soon as more people join.
