Hi fellow MAC users i am currently running Mac OSX 10.5.4
I have not yet found the reason to invest in a Windows operating system yet since I have been successfully using NeoOffice and Google for compatible word processing.
What would be the minimum extra software I would have to purchase to use Orchidwhiz. This was not addressed on their website.
You'd have to be able to boot as a PC. I'm no longer a Mac user, but as I recall there is a pack you can install to boot as a PC (or maybe it's even easier, like switching to a virtual disc?) If there are very many packages you covet, then I would get the software or the ability. Don't think every Mac processor can do this, but some can. Especially the Intel processors.
I don't have what it takes on my mac laptop, so I will be using the PC in the basement that we hardly ever use. Then in a year or so when I get a new mac laptop it is sooo on!
According to what I found so far I would have to buy a copy of Windows.
However, unlike the advice at the Orchidwiz site it is not necessary to buy additional programs like Parallell.
Quote from the Apple forum for others who might be interested:
"You can also use this open source virtualisation solution called Virtualbox.
It's free (vs. Parallels and Fusion) and works surprisingly well. For any solution however, you'll need your own copy of Windows to install. BootCamp has some specific requirements with respect to which version of Windows you install... but all the virtualization programs will let you install just about any version of any OS. "
