Default Proper way to post?

I am unsure about a couple of things. When I post in a thread what is the correct way as not to talk about the wrong or other things possibly sidetracking a important question? At times especially after looking over all my post and threads I feel like I am of below average intellegence(stupid). I feel as if I may be interrupting people and talking in circles.
I have learned what little I do know about computers in the past few weeks that does not help matters .
I just want to make sure I use the board correctly so I do not bother people or put things in the wrong places!
I also want to thank everyone for the help. I have never ask a question that was not answered and really fast too.
Martin

Hey Martin,

I understand the confusion. Sometimes I feel like I do a lot of asking questions on others' threads. Sometimes the threads take off in a different direction and that's fine, as long as everyone is on the same page. But it is not really proper to just jump in and ask a totally unrelated question. Normally posters will try to divert attentions back to the original topic, politely. Just be familiar with the forum areas and try to keep things organized to some extent.

Nobody should get upset about these type of things, but etiquette is appreciated. Just the fact that you are asking this questions is a sign of respect. Well, it's mutual. Sometimes I feel a little dumb too, but that's why we're here - to learn. That should be a rule - no dumb questions. We all have a little to teach, and a lot to learn. Below average intelligence here is still way up in the 90th percentile of those heathen non orchid growers.

Hi Martin

Here are some basics:
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...u-started.html

What you mentioned about sidetracking a question is called "hijacking" and we even have a special smilie for it:

We also have one to bring us back to topic:

It happens all the time...just like in a regular conversation...we all get off-track on occasion

If one of the moderators thinks that the "off-topic" subject might get better exposure, we'll move the post to a more appropriate forum and notify the person.

It is surely not a bother to help our friends get around the neighborhood...please don't think you're doing anything "wrong"

It's been a pleasure to have you here with us...enjoy the board and don't worry about the little stuff

Martin, when I first joined, I was scared to death I would do something wrong, or stupid, or both. It sure didn't take long to find out how wrong, and stupid that was. This is the best bunch of silly, smart, friendly and diverse people I've ever met. We're all in this together, so just sit back and have fun!

Don't ever think your stupid or a question is stupid. Chances are someone is wondering the same thing. We have all been there and done that. That's why we have such a great group.
