Well it just booted me out after making previous post which I had to use stop button as it had churned away as if loading for over ten minutes. There is definately something wrong with this site as I visit other sites and never have the problems I have with this site.

It seems that Ross and Ken (Ironwood) are having this problem.

Lets try to troubleshoot this.

From what Ken told me
- cookies are enabled (try to clear the cache and clear cookies)

are you guys going to orchidboard.com or www.orchidboard.com ???

Can you guys try using other browsers and see if it works ? Do you have any security software installed ? or anti-spyware or anything like that that could be preventing you from setting up a cookie ? Search your computer and see if you can find a file called user@orchidboard.txt or user@www.orchidboard.txt
probably in c:\documents and settings\your username\cookies

Try to sign up for www.vivariumforum.com and see if you have the same problem with loggin in.

I use 4 different computers from 4 different locations and I never had that problem. Most of the people here also don't have a problem, so at this point I'm assuming this is a local issue for you guys.

Ken you said this works at other sites. Can you tell me which ones? Are they vBulletin based? Does it work on slippertalk.com ?

This is the message I get when I logout, indicating to me that this site is clearing the cookies.

The site at http://www.vivariumforum.com/ works the same (or doesn't work as the case may be).

I enter this site with http://www.orchidboard.com/community/

I normally use Firefox but got the same results with MS Explorer and same message when logging out.

"Can you tell me which ones? Are they vBulletin based?" I have no idea.

I have not been into the GPS sites for over a year and they still work fine. I could give more examples but I think you get the picture.

I am not a subscriber to slippertalk.com

Looks like you have a problem with vbulletin forums. The other ones are based on different software.

Ken in FireFox, go here:

Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies

and tell me what settings you have

Are you on a Mac or PC ?

Marty, I am using Windows 2000 Prof. I get the same results on 2 different PCs (laptop and workstation). I only had the problem yesterday afternoon and evening. Yesterday morning was fine and today (so far are fine) The Vivarium board is far worse in my opinion. The home page shows me logged in as does the main forums screen. When I go to an individual forum however or go to read any posting, it shows me NOT logged in and I have no permissions (ie, to post or view images). If I log in I get that same loop where it takes me back to a page saying I am a visitor. When I go right back to main forum page, guess what? I'm still logged in. It has always worked like this for me so I just refrain from using that board. The Orchid board problems are off again - on again, mostly it works OK. I've cleared cookies, cache, rebooted, restarted the forum, etc. and nothing changes so I tend to think there's something going on between the forum and my ISP? By the way I am on DSL broadband, IE6 (W2K does not support IE7 - or is it the other way around?)

I am not sure, sometimes I will go away from computer for 15 - 20 mins and come back type in a post hit the post key and wham suddenly I am a guest and the post is gone. I have also had this happen while navigating through site.

What message do you get when you log out. Is this message normal?

For the upper left hand "login" message board to clear I have to "Logout" a second time or it looks as if I am still logged in. But if I try to do anything after first "Logout" I am a guest.

Ken

Edit-- will navigating through site ------that doesn't read rite
