I Would Like to Lobby for a New Forum on OB
This is not a call for a revolution!
I sat in on a really entertaining and informative presentation today at the New Hampshire OS monthly meeting and it got me thinking about a resource for those folks who are charged with finding meeting speakers.
I've found a few threads scattered throughout the Orchid Board regarding speakers but nothing consolidated like we have, just by example, for say vendor reviews.
Would the OB folks consider adding a new forum where members could contribute recommendations and reviews? I think that could end up being a great resource for all of us.

Or finding speakers that are available to give online sessions (for free) for OB members.

Great Lakes (Ann Arbor, Michigan) Judging Center has some very good speakers and they allow people to register for the talks. Sometimes there is a fee but this month, it is free...just have to register. Norman Fang will be speaking on Phals.

Most orchid societies will let you join Zoom talks if you contact them ahead of time (then they can send the link). It is like attending a meeting to see if you want to join. Orchid Societies are non-profit and exist to educate and help others where orchids are concerned (or, really, to feed the addiction).

We routinely have guests that attend our OS Zoom meetings [Portland (Oregon) Orchid Society member here]; though I sometimes feel bad for those that join in from the east coast, as it makes for a late night

I think Keysguy was looking for a speaker referral forum, not a “where can I watch/listen for free?”.
Not a bad idea.

I don't know if I'm able to do that or not, but I'll give it a shot. It's a good idea, so why not?
It's possible Marty may need to be involved. I'm pretty new at this admin thing, so patience please?

Okay, it's hopefully up and running. I'll tweak it after awhile. Meanwhile, test drive it a bit.
Located under CLASSIFIEDS as Speaker Referral, right next to Vendor Feedback.

Yes. My thought is someone who wanted to post an event to garner attention for a speaker of a "watch/listen for free" or even watch/listen by paying, would be more appropriate for someone to post under this forum News, Updates & Feedback.

I like the idea, but before we go ahead and create anything, maybe it would be good to clarify the purpose?
I lik the idea of a (sub forum) where meeting notes (or video links) can be shared, as occurs on a regular basis already.
However if it's just to list speakers and the areas of expertise, I think we could already do this in a stickied thread in an already existing forum.

Admins can create a new forum, but I have a feeling that Marty needs to do something to the database in order for the change to be deployed to the front end.

WW- thank you.
Camille may be correct that something else needs to happen internally tech-wise because I just went and tried to start a new thread/post under what you created and I didn't see a way to do that.
My thought was each thread title could be a speaker name and as long as folks were including their speakers' topic in their thread, that forum could be searched by topic and it would be a 2-way tool. ie; you could browse speakers or search for a specific topic of interest and speakers that had spoken on that topic would come up in the search.
Make sense?

Hmmm, good commentary Camille. Lets leave new one up for a little bit and see if folks can see it? A test drive? Or perhaps incorporate Referrals as a subforum also containing meeting notes or videos from speakers?

Thanks KeysGuy for the heads up. I get a different view than members do, and it's hard to figure out what I can see vs others. Nice to have a guinea pig readily available!
