Default Orchid Mounting Forum Perhaps?

Just wondering if it might be a good idea to consolidate the threads on mounting orchids into a new forum category specifically for discussion on mounting techniques, questions, examples, etc.

Sounds like a good idea, but I'm not sure if it isn't redundant a bit... I'd like to hear more comments on this. anyone?

Hi Marty,
I think a new category on mounting might be a good idea. It would save searching the threads as lots of times mounting comes up within a thread that started out on a totally different subject.
Just my
Thanks for doing a great job with this Board, it is the best one out there...........and yes, I have checked. LOL

This was my initial reaction - sort of But after checking through all the current forums, I think it is as valid as many others such as Semi-hydroponics. I'm wondering if it could be made broad enough to cover all aspects of mounting orchids and growing mounted orchids? From methods, to culture. From types of mounting materials to types of orchids that can be grown mounted. I really think the cultural process of growing orchids on mounts is getting more popular. Other off-shoot forums have lain dormant for a while (the Photography forum, for one ) but I see a steady stream of discussion on mounts and growing mounted orchids. Just my thoughts.

My only issue with breaking down things into more specific forum areas comes when I think about posting a thread... For example, my Aerangis are all growing mounted in my Exo tank. Do I choose the Alliance specific area? The Terrarium area? The Miniature area? The Orchids in Bloom area? Or possibly, the Mounted area? It fits all of them (when they're in flower).

If I were a taxonomist, I would be a lumper!!

That said, having things broken down into more specific topics is a big help when trying to find more general information - especially when its something you are new to and may not know the correct key words to formulate a search.

I guess it comes down to two things, as I see it: 1) Do most people subscribe to forums, so that it would be useful to have a specific one for each area of interest? and 2) the overall strategy of Orchid Board - is it lumping or splitting?

That was my reservation and why I posted the questions. Without a "rules" posting at top of the forum, it will become the job of the poster to decide. I would hope we could keep this (so far, testing) forum to the processes and culture of growing on mounts. So if you have a plant that happens to be mounted and in bloom and are posting about the bloom, then it should go under the proper section for that plant?
