So if you have a plant that happens to be mounted and in bloom and are posting about the bloom, then it should go under the proper section for that plant?
I think that if the photo is only of the flower and the plant then it should go in the proper section for that plant. But if the photo also includes the mount that the orchid is mounted on then perhaps it can go into the mounting forum.

I think it would have to be determined by the poster as to what kind of question they are asking .. I agree with Epi .. if it's just to display a bloom then it can go into Orchid in Bloom whether it is potted or mounted ... Questions specific to mounting, mounting culture differences etc (as described before) would pertain to the Growing on Mounts Forum

Whatever you guys want to do is fine with me. I just think the board is getting too split up and segregated. How about a forum for RO water users? How about a forum for LECA users not doing S/H? Get the point? The problem seems to be the unwillingness to do the research on the already fine posts that exist here. Dorothy (bless her heart) does a great job on doing research that, frankly, we should be doing ourselves. Can't tell you the number of times my reaction to a post was "didn't this person search the posts?" Sorry for the rant, but it just got to me. I'll behave, honest

I hear you, Ross -
I think from an organization point of view .. a person can go right to the Mounting Forum instead of going through other forums like beginners, advanced, etc to find specific threads pertaining to mounting .. granted there is the search option and I use that option a good amount of times but entering a word or two can bring up pages of threads ..
As far as searching posts, I believe members that are new to the board may have not had the time to navigate or explore the board to know what it holds ... I remember it took me time to get around and find things and know what was here .. and I am sure there are things I have yet to find
And being a member here for a good amount of time, gives the advantage of knowing what has already been discussed .. that is why I will refer questions to past threads
It's all good

Well the good thing is that we can always remove unused forums. Nothing is set in stone. Now that I think about it, should I also add

- Growing Orchids on Mounts under lights
- Growing Orchids on Mounts in green houses
- Growing Orchids on Mounts in terrariums

However, mounting is a big part of growing orchids since so many are epiphytic, but at the same time mounting isn't a rocket science either. We'll let it run for a few months and if the forum isn't used extensively, then we'll just re-absorb it into another forum.

we're easy here and we roll with the punches at OB

Not related to the creation of the forum - but in response to the issue of doing searches...

My own feeling is that by answering a person's question directly - rather than telling them to do a search if its something that gets asked frequently - really makes this forum different. It is one of the things that gives it a very friendly, warm feeling. People feel welcomed by this, and start to make connections with other members straight away. They are then not afraid to keep posting, keep asking questions, and keep discussing.

Of all of the forums that I have participated in - on whatever topic - this one thing sets OB apart right from the very start.

However, cumbersome it may be to answer the same question again and again, it is worth it!!
