Actually in Europe it does not have to stay within one country. We can ship plants to people in any of the EU member countries (Switzerland excluded). The only difference will be the shipping costs to the various countries.

I have a mini-cymbidium that I am planning to divide. It has a gazillion pseudobulbs and leaves and is as tough as nails. It has just finished flowering for the season.

I am toying with the idea of dividing it now and offering divisions for sale or trade. But I've never sold or mailed plants before.

So, in all fairness to potential buyers or traders (and to the health of the plants), do you think that it's OK to divide the plant now and send the divisions during the OB plant sale? My concern is that the plants would be shocky and would not have time to settle down if I divide the parent plant now and send the divisions out so quickly. Would it make more sense to pot up the divisions and let them recuperate for a while before offering them for sale or trade?

I just want everyone....people and plants....to be happy.

Just my two cents on shipping companies: for those who have all their paperwork done, CITES and all...
UPS and FEDEX usually charge a hefty brokerage fee when you ship from the US to Canada...
That's how I winded up paying 50$ of fees for a Birthday gift I got from a friend (which was in fact 2 DVDs and home made candies!)...
That's why whenever I shop online I prefer USPS.
When a plant is concerned I don't know how they go about it...

can't wait for the sale!

I love orchids and this site is full of information. I'm a novice wanting to grow in knowledge and expertise in orchid growing. I don't have much to say. I just want to learn and maybe get some nice, inexpensive orchids.

This "flea market" is not limited to just one country...it's for all of us!

Why not divide it right now and then if anybody is interested, set up the actual shipping for the end of the month or later? Just an idea
