I forgot to water and one of my two Ginja died. But my two wild-type plants are each putting up buds.

Ouch! In your climate, forgetting to water is a big deal, I'm sure. Glad some of them survived.

I have only one in my balcony.... from 4 that I bought in spring. For the moment it’s doing great.... I hope to see it in bloom in August). Also, anyone bought this hybrid habenaria? Pecteilis Susanne x habenaria medusea. I would love to buy it but it’s impossible to find it in Europe

I had several of these, and hey were growing well. I watered like you do, from the top and then let the excess water collect in a saucer, and I'd water again once the saucer was dry. They were doing great, and then they just turned black and died. I wonder if it was the heat. They died right about the time the hot Texas summer really kicked into gear. Maybe I should try again next year and keep them inside under my light setup once it starts to get hot outside. I guess it may have been the heat that killed them.

I had them live through temperatures to 116 F / 46.5C without damage. The problem is always insufficient water. I need to grow them in a terrarium next time, or wait until I'm retired. I have been successful with pure pumice, potting soil mixed with pumice and potting soil/sand/pumice/local soil mixed. I too stood mine in deep trays of water.

Then I wonder what the heck made mine turn black and die overnight. I guess I'll try again next year and see if I can do any better.
