My 3 bulbs had 2 blooms each and have started to die back. Surprisingly a 4th growth has emerged in the pot and I now have to consider whether to continue watering and risk rotting the older growths. Aren't these supposed to bloom in fall ? The 4th growth is thus reverting to type? The pot is in a saucer of rainwater that barely empties with all the rain we are getting.

They usually flower July-Sept. Different varieties have different flowering time.

I see only three, and all of them seem to have the marginal variegation (fukurin).

You have to keep watering at this point. They are making the tuber fattened up at this point, so the care at this point is going to influence the growths in the next year. Also, in the winter, I think most people keep it moist. The You don't have to have the bottom water tray, though.

I couldn't resist and uncovered most of the roots of the now completely withered 3rd growth. Actually easy because it's mainly in perlite. The roots are quite thick and many near the surface. It turns out that the 4th growth is growing from one of these roots.
So - originally planted 3 bulbs
1 bulb bloomed and withered at least 2 weeks prior to others
2 bulbs bloomed but show no signs of dying back.
First bulb has generated a new growth from its roots/new bulb........about 2 inches away!

Resistance was futile and I unpotted the plants. They were yellow to the base and drying.
I found 9 bulbs, maybe a 10th. Roots are around 6 inches long. The bulbs are clustered around the base of the plant. 4 around 1 and 3 around the other. There were 2/3 additional loose bulbs - hard but much smaller. The main bulbs are plump and new potato coloured.
Next step - into a sphagnum baggie in a few weeks and maybe the fridge veggie drawer?

Mine died down quickly after flowering. I don't know whether they are dead, or just resting. I'm afraid to look. I haven't let them dry completely. When it cools down I will unpot to store for the winter, and find out whether they survived.
