I've been growing Pecteilis radiata for a couple years. They've been growing ok and flower every year, but not as well as I hope for. This year I screwed up dormancy, and they started to grow way too early (around the end of Dec). They are already starting to send up the inflorescence. I can't quite give enough light indoor (I usually grow them outside in the summer under full sun), so I have a feeling that the next year will be pretty bad for them. Oops.

I hope that it will grow well in AZ. I can see that it would be a challenge. They need strong light, but you have to watch out when the temperature is high.

Today I put my 2 pair into two 3.25" / 7.5cm square pots with small-grain pumice premoistened with rain. I topped the pots with sphagnum. The Ginga are sprouting already.

I will put them into my sunroom when it gets hot, against the window. The evaporative cooler will be blowing in their direction, keeping the air 80 F / 26C and 70% relative humidity. They will get around 3 hours of morning sun, then bright shade. This is enough to bloom Cattleyas and Vandas.

I have 8 sprouts in two pots, and a couple of them are Ginja. I am out of town this week, but by the time I get home they should be big enough to see in a photo! Since I had 9 tubers from last year's growth, I am thrilled!

Mine arrived shortly after my initial post. Not sure what happened to April 3. No signs of growth yet but the tubers look good so I'm not too worried. But as a counterpoint I received more P. graminifolia and some H. radiata 'Ginga' from Seed Engei. Those tubers were showing signs of sprouting when they arrived, and currently look like this:

Mine are growing on strong.
The differing media used is interesting and we should update this thread as the season progresses. Mine are in a 90/10 perlite/moss mix.

Edit: a bit of excavation shows signs of growth in both the Habenaria and Ponerorchis from Kusamono. The Habenaria are at about the same level of development as the others were when they arrived. The Ponerorchis not quite so much, but they seem to grow faster than the Habenaria, so they should catch up shortly. Nothing from the Pogonia japonica yet.

My mix is more like 75% perlite/25% mostly milled Mosser Lee sphagnum with a pinch of Osmocote 14-14-14 in each pot.

Today's photo. They are sitting in a tray with no drain holes that holds an inch or so / 3cm of rain water. The pots are 3.25" / 8.25cm square. They are potted in pumice with a little sphagnum on top. Think it's time to begin fertilizing lightly?
