Thanks! Got it at a show earlier this year along with my Den. Anceps, FDK After Dark 'SVO Black Pearl', a few Phals., and a Dendrochilum wenzelii...oh, and an Encyclia cochleata. Sadly, the Dendrochilum wenzelii is no longer with me (got it home and unpotted it to find no roots and was unable to save it - I think it had a bigger issue than just no roots).

Super bummer about the dendrochillum!!

I have recently acquired an anceps as well, how are keeping it? I cannot decide if I want to mount it hanging down or do a basket pot situation.

Right now the den. anceps is in a small net pot. Once it gets more established I plan to mount it so it can hang pendant style. Surprisingly, it also bloomed (one flower) back in October but it is also such a young orchid. I plan on getting another Dendrochilum next time but a more established one, maybe not a wenzelii either.

L. anceps is one of the most bulletproof orchids around. Depending on size, I'd suggest mount, or a basket with little or no medium. Even in my climate, which is drier than yours, in pots or in baskets with any significant amount of bark, they putt along slowly until they hit the edge and then take off. (I assume they're telling me that they didn't want to be in a pot) If you mount it and it outgrows the mount, the whole thing (mount and all) can go into a basket simply for control But especially with high humidity, those roots don't want to be confined. L anceps thrives on abuse even more than most orchids.

Hi Roberta, we were speaking about Dendrobium anceps, not Laelia anceps (although L. anceps is on my list to get). The way you describe its ability to handle abuse reminds me of my den. phalaenopsis NOIDs. I swear the more sunburnt my den. phals get the more they flower.
