Ludisia discolour
Hi all,
This is my Ludisia discolour. I have had this orchid for maybe 9 years or so. I just tossed it into my terrarium and it has grown a lot since then. Basically it took over the darkest, wettest area of the terrarium (aka, the bottom of the terrarium). Infact I cannot see the original bottom of the tank anymore. On occasion it blooms, I guess maybe once a year or less. It's a neglected orchid for sure.
I took the photo of these buds because I thought they made a beautiful presentation. Later on the flowers will spread apart with long internodes and it will be much more difficult to photograph from inside a terrarium.

L. d. is mostly prized for the leaves, but I love the flowers as well. Love your photo!
I grow mine in a large pot, layer of Styrofoam chips in the bottom, layer of bark over that, topped with African violet potting soil. It grows like a weed (we can all use a weed like this!). Mine bloomed last year, right after I established some cuttings. I will have to see if I get another bloom this year.

Thanks guys. It grows so fast at this point, that if I had the ambition I would do a time-lapse of it.
