Habenaria radiata
I have little egrets flying in my house this week
I bought 4 tubers, 3 survived and spiked, there will be 10 blooms in all. The plants are sitting on a windowsill in a saucer of water. They are tall and spindly; I wonder if they would be more robust if they had been outside?
Now I'm just hoping for more tubers for next year!
Darn! That picture is upside down, and I can't figure out how to rotate it. Sorry!

My source was:
Kusamono Gardens
They say out of stock on their website now, but they may keep a list for next season. The tubers are sold in the winter/spring.

I've wanted to grow this since I was a kid. It likes things a little cool.
Habenaria radiata, the egret flower of the Far East
I decided to learn on a warmer-growing one, H. rhodocheila. So far so good, but no bloom spikes, yet.

I'm so excited! Today I unpotted my Habenaria radiata after leaving them to dry during most of October and this month so far. I have NINE little tubers now, better multiplication than I had dared hope for! Now if I can just get them to sprout in the spring.
It's gonna be a good year for egrets!
