Calypso bulbosa var. occidentalis
Hello!
I had the pleasure of spotting a successful colony of Calypso bulbosa growing in a forest in my home of Oregon and thought I'd share photos with you all! I was so ecstatic, I saw this one and nearly fell over haha! Below that you'll see my unenthusiastic Winston. He doesn't care as much for orchids as I do lol

Haha, Winston made me laugh - at least he didn't trod on the plant while photographing as my dog loves do to ...
I'd have made hundreds of pics! What a gem! And thanks for sharing!
Only a gladiolus species nothing to be compared with Calypso anyway, but Luna tried hard!

Awesome find!
Aww - no, Winston looks less than enthused, but I'm sure he was happy to go with you!

He always is, he just has very expressive eyes! Haha! I was so excited to find this Calypso to see it in it's natural habitat as I just purchased some Calypso from a friend who grows it successfully in their woodland garden. I attribute this to her having the right fungus in the habitat, I don't live too far from her so I'm hoping I have the right stuff too. Does anyone out there grow Calypso? Any tips for me?

Are you in the Canary Islands? The plants in the background look like Euphorbias endemic there.

That is too funny! I am actually in Oregon. I discovered another one in a park just a few miles from my house. I feel so blessed to be surrounded by these creatures!

One thing I do miss because of no longer being in Alaska is finding the calypso orchids in the spring and early summer depending on altitude.
These were found in June near the Matanuska glacier in different years:
I do miss summer orchid hunting in Alaska.

Wow, great pics everyone. These are awesome find. I have seen our eastern species only in New Jersey and couldn't get too close because we had to stay on a board walk.

That's when a telephoto lens comes in handy.
