I can only comment from experience... for me, they grow under the same conditions - on my patio, so they get winter lows around 4 deg. C (occasionally a little lower) and summer highs mostly below 32 deg C but occasionally higher. I think that M. versteegii needs to be shadier, with its thinner leaves. With M. decoratum, I found that with a bit more light (bright shade with filtered sun for a few hours) I got more flowers. With higher temperatures, I think that with more shading and some extra watering during the day, one could get away with more heat.
Just keep M. versteegii away from where raccoons can reach it... I lost a nice one that was shredded... I have been growing this one for about 2 years. M. decoratum I have had for longer.
