Coryanthes macrantha
I got this orchid a couple of months ago with only the bare hint of a spike so I can only take the credit from that time. While out to buy some supplies from my local orchid supply the women who owns the place said she now knows why I like Bulbophyllums so much after seeing pictures of this weird looking orchid. I think I have found another new species to get into.

Wow, it sure develops color from almost nothing - neat flowers.

Thanks all for your comments, I agree with all of you this is a very cool looking orchid. I was out the other day watching green bees swarm all around the flowers to pollinate, it was like seeing nature in the wild, fascinating. I wish I had thought about taking pictures but I was so into watching what I was seeing to leave to get the camera. I also have to say I have never seen this color bee since I lived in South Florida, that's going on 33 years. I am on the lookout for more of this species, the only drawback is the flowers only lasted 4 days!

That's how long my lasted too JDT, I have seen this green bee before. EVERYTIME I see a coryanthes video this bee is always buzzing around it. I will put mine out next time it blooms and see if I can round up some of these bees to the flower. It's so interesting to watch.

Nice growing! I don't have these but if you like orchids whose spikes and flowers hang over the rim or come out from beneath the pot, try Stanhopea,Cirrhea,Gongora or Sievekingia!
