Default Disa Kewensis in flower

This is my first time flowering a Disa. I bought it in November and unlike the first time I tried this one made it through the winter.

Not sure it will make it another year as I don't really know what I'm doing with it. I didn't repot in time in the spring so it's still in the media I bought it in and I know I've read these don't do well in old medium. Also not sure if I have fertilised to much as I now realise these like very pure water (I have been using rain water).

That having been said, just this week I've noticed a new growth starting. I was worried as I know this is one that dies off and it's the new growths that keep it going. There hadn't been any new growth up until the first sign this week. But I don't really know when new growth is expected

I really am growing this a bit blind with not enough knowledge so I'm just pleased to have got it this far

These photos were actually taken at the beginning of the month before I went away for a couple of weeks. I've been back over a week now and they are still looking just as great

Try growing them in hang bags. Onion bags or stuff likewise. Fill with Spagnum and stick them in the holes

Thanks everyone. I'm really pleased I got it to flowering point. The buds took sooo long to develop and open and I kept expecting them to blast.

They can stay for up to 4 years without repotting

Cool. I had seen something that said they should be done every year so was worried. I was planning to repot early in the year but by the time I got to it it was growing fast and already budding. I didn't want to disturb it in bud so didn't repot. Didn't realise just how long it would take to grow the spikes though!

Once the plant blooms, the blooming shoots die back leaving behind the offshoots.
