Default Stenoglottis tuberous roots.

Stenoglottis is not a terribly popular terrestrial orchid. It doesn't get talked about a lot. And I'll be honest, there was a point in time when I was recommended Stenoglottis, but was not thrilled at the recommendation. It wasn't until I got one that I appreciated these orchids.

I've posted about Stenoglottis before, but I've posted a photo of the flower to the hybrid Stenoglottis Bill Fogarty. I keep thinking I've done this, but I'm honestly not sure if I posted a pic of Stenoglottis woodii before. I think I've only posted a photo of the leaves for Stenoglottis woodii. Well, today, I'm posting what the dormant tuberous roots look like.

I knocked the potting media out, and I cleaned it up as best as I could without causing damage to the plant.

This is what I got.

The mass of tuberous roots measures out to be less than 2" (5 cm) across

Hope this was enlightening to anybody who may be interested in Stenoglottis.

Nice! I have 2 Stenoglottis, a S. longifolia and a hybrid 'Longwood'. How dry do you let yours get during dormancy Philip?

They're left pretty dry during dormancy. I pretty much forget about it.

I grow them in loose sphagnum, and never they them dry. When the old growth fades, I find a new one emerges pretty soon after.

Oh how I love terrestrials! Is this one a reliable bloomer for you?

Also Got a hold of another Thrixspermum , the first one was starting to regrow but it was ambushed by bush snails (said snails are now dead)

Stenoglottis Bill Fogarty was. I imagine this one is too.

I just got this one this year.

When I got Stenoglottis Bill Fogarty, it was mislabeled as Stenoglottis woodii.

I asked the seller why whenever I looked up photos of the real Stenoglottis woodii, it looked different from the flowers I had on mine. They sent me the real Stenoglottis woodii shortly thereafter.
