saving my habenaria

Hallo everyone, this morning I went through my dead orchids pots(all where habenarias) I found in one of my habenaria medusae pots a bulb( tuber), and so I thought maby I can save it but I have no idea how to do it. I currently have it laying in moist spagnum mos. If any of you can help me and get it growing again I would really appreciate it. Happy growing!

Get it off the moist sphag! They have a tendency to rot very easily when they are dormant. Your tuber looks viable/good so just pot it up and wait for it to sprout green before you do any significant watering.

I have most of my habs in a terrestrial mix that will hold a bit of moisture w/out being soggy. I have also used regular soilless potting mix w/a healthy dose of perlite. I have also used cactus mix w/some added bits here and there. They aren't all that picky really...as long as their seasons are observed. Rainy season...dry season. Lots of water when they are actively growing but next to nothing when they are dormant.

When they are dormant...watering wrong can lead to rot...very quickly. I know people who don't water them at all during this time but my space is so dry so I give them a teeny tiny drizzle of water around the edges of the pot about once every week-10 days. The lights in my space really dry things out and I fear the tubers would shrivel too much w/out that teeny drizzle of water. Think a bit of morning dew...not much water at all.

My recommendation...pot up the tuber and wait for it to sprout.

This should give you a little bit of insight on when growing season is, and when dormancy is for your Habenaria medusae.

They start putting out new growth in mid-spring, will continue to grow during the summer, put out a bloom spike during the fall, start going dormant during mid to late fall, and remain dormant for the winter and through the early part of spring.
