polystachya ottoniana
Herewith a true African miniature, Polystachya ottoniana, found in eastern parts of South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe in moist forests and woodland.
Tiny flowers only 5-7 mm wide, are non resupinate so they appear upside down, which is the define feature of all Polystachya. This particular species is quite variable, with various shades of whites, pale pinks, greens and yellows. I was given this specimen plant a couple of years back and it flourished for me, this season I have seen the most flowers.
Polystachya’s are a small quiet genus, not the loud showy specimens, more for the connoisseurs amongst us, but please give them a try, they are great fun little things. Due to there small nature and habit, they are best grown mounted.
