Default Polystachya zambeziaca

Polystachya zambeziaca, one of our African endemic species from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and northern parts of South Africa, grows in woodland and I have also seen it growing on granite hill sides.

Lovely flowers, Owen. Are they fragrant? I periodically see species from this genus for sale over here, but they don't seem to be terribly popular, which is a shame.

They are not fragrant, the plants are not very large but if grown well can grown into quite large specimens though.

The individual flowers are only 4-5 mm in length and mostly whites, pale yellows and greens but there are some species of pinks and lilic. So due to their modest stature, I'm not surprised they haven't made a splash in the world.
