Any other Ponerorchis graminifolia owners here?

I'll post a pic of plant and buds tomorrow, but I wanted to ask as I've recently added Ponerorchis graminifolia to my collection. Admittedly I didn't QUITE realize HOW petite and fragile looking this little guy is but I'm excited to see it flower! Mine I got in bud, I'll guess they're a week or so out from flowering.

I have never heard of this one, but I looked it up and it looks adorable. I have been reading up on masdevailias and thinking about trying one. Do you have the picture of the flowers now?

This is a native from Japan. It is an unusual orchid in that it grows from corms or tiny bulblets. As you see, they are very small, grass like plants. They have beautiful carnation-like flowers, which partly explains why they are highly prized in Japan. When it starts to get cold, the plant dies back to the bulblets and go dormant. Some growers put them in a dark, cool, dry space--like a refrigerator vegetable crisper--or an un-heated garage from the end of Fall to the end of Winter.

I bought several bulbs of this plant last year. But being ignorant of their culture, they rotted when I failed to follow their winter rest requirements. That was another expensive lesson learned!

I got one of these a few weeks back...in bloom...and it's done now. I had heard of them but you don't see them too often so I grabbed it up as soon as I saw it. If I had been a bit quicker I could've had 2 but a fellow OS member saw them at the same time so I had to share.

BTW - it's not in the Pleuro group...it's lumped in w/Disas and Habenaria. Ponerorchis (like habenaria) has 2 distinct seasons...one active and wet and the other dry and dormant.

Sorry sometimes I let threads get away from me, but I love that you can go to your User CP and go back through the threads you've subscribed to.

Anywho, yes I do have pictures. They're from several weeks ago as the blooms have slowly been dying off for the last week or 2.

Ooooh, bummer to hear about your experience with these thus far. I'll admit this part of their care intimidates me a bit. It's so tiny I worry I won't get it right!! It's just coming out of bloom, slowly dropping its flowers. So when it dies back completely in the fall I should bag it up and cool it? I'll read into this of course.

Nice find! I didn't quite know what I was getting into but I am happy to have it. Like I said above mine is just now coming out of bloom. The above picture is from two weeks ago. I'll go back and check but I think this was in bloom for me for about a month, at least 3 weeks.

Thanks for that info about what group it's in, I was wondering myself thus why I posted in this topic and not the designated group, I couldn't figure it out!!
