It is funny the longer you look around on this forum and the internet, how ones tastes in orchids does change. It makes you want to try many different kinds.

I only wish I could mount them on trees, that would be so fun. I told my husband I should mount one on my Shaflera (sp) plant as the thing is 12 foot tall.

I am still fond of the ordinary ones also. I don't know if that will pass but my noID phals I still like. The blooms last so long and I am still in love with them too, even though my 2 species I have, have always been my favorites.

And I will have to see if I am going to have any luck with my Masdevallias or not. I sure hope I will. I badly want a Mediocalcar decoratum.

But my abilities are going to have to be limited as I have to work at keeping my trees alive out here where I live.

Shannon your growing zone makes it more difficult for some orchids, but I still think you can have great luck with other ones, and mostly the colder growing ones, that I have problems to grow in our heat. It is all about "trying" and making some research, asking people how do they grow theirs, it did help me a lot! I wish you best of luck with all your orchids, the ones you have and the ones that may come this year:-)

Thanks Tommy, and you are right. I am lucky I do have the cooler temps at times. Well goodness for me alone, I hate the heat. I just love the looks of the orchids outdoors. I am hoping some day to fix my front porch so maybe I can try some outside in the summer. And by fixing I mean I have to get things set up so they wouldn't get blown away

And yes it would be hard to try the Masdevallias in your climate. And I do love them. I have to get to uploading pics because I do need some advice.

See Shannon, and even the fact it is hard, I have probably some 10 Masdevallias, and many of them is blooming for me, but most is grown inside the apartment year round, I just do not like that sentence "you can not grow something", till I try, I do not believe it:-)))

Wow, really, you have 10. I'm up to 4 and trying to stop there. I want to see if I can make them bloom before I get any more.

Shannon, I am up to some 230+ orchids, so 10 Masdies is really just a small number in that "huge" number:-))))

Thanks leafmite, now there is a problem - it needs brother, Cynorkis gibbosa, which is absolutely out of this world beautiful, but also out of this world expensive and hard to get:-))
