Chysis bruennowiana
Despite of its wide area of distribution from Costa Rica to Peru this species was not available for decades. Then suddenly about 3 years ago bigger seedlings were available at many vendors.
I grow my plant year round in a warm greenhouse with only a slight rest period in winter. In contrast to the reported damp hot atmosphere I feel that Chysis like fresh air.
It never bloomed before and actually I didn't notice the developing flower stem. When I came back from holidays my plant gave me an unexspected warm welcome. 3 out of 12 flowers were still open. Flowering is not the grown up slender long pbulb from last year but the new short one to the right.

This is a really attractive orchid. I had Ch. costaricensis in Hawaii, but I could never get it to grow well. What type of media do you use?

Chysis costaricensis Schlechter 1923 is a synonym to Chysis bruennowiana according to Jay Pfahl.
Chysis have very robust long living hairy roots and are not choosy about the potting medium. I have them in plactic pots filled with medium sized fir bark and clay pellets - Hygroton is also possible.

Awesome petals and nice colour. Was not aware of this species before.
