Default Source for Calanthes?

Anyone know a good source online or in NYC for Calanthes other than Carter and Holmes?

Andy's Orchids is one.

Orchid Web is another.

There are other nurseries, but it depends on what species you're looking for because they don't necessarily specialize in orchids.

Calanthes are dormant this time of year. It might be best to wait a couple months right when they start waking up. You might get bored just staring at a potful of inactive pseudobulbs.

I have one and yes, it's pretty boring at the moment, but wouldn't they be easier to ship?

They're just as easy to ship during the very beginning of spring when they start putting out new growths, but have not produced leaves yet. I just wouldn't do it during summer, because then they would be more difficult to ship with their leaves fully formed and such.

You could also have them shipped to you during late fall/early winter, but again, you wouldn't see anything happening for about 3 - 4 months.

If you're looking for a specific species, try doing a search on Google for the species you're looking for, you might find them with a little bit of patience.

Like I said, some places that sell Calanthes don't exclusively sell orchids.
