They're just as easy to ship during the very beginning of spring when they start putting out new growths, but have not produced leaves yet. I just wouldn't do it during summer, because then they would be more difficult to ship with their leaves fully formed and such.
You could also have them shipped to you during late fall/early winter, but again, you wouldn't see anything happening for about 3 - 4 months.
If you're looking for a specific species, try doing a search on Google for the species you're looking for, you might find them with a little bit of patience.
Like I said, some places that sell Calanthes don't exclusively sell orchids.
