Microclimates can be a funny thing. They definitely weren't the biggest, healthiest ones that I have ever seen. There were less than a dozen, all growing on a eastern facing slope. The Brookings area has a much warmer climate in general than most of the other Oregon coastal regions.
Does anyone still grow these? I know there were a few people who had them in cultivation but they all seem to have moved on!
Mine are currently frozen solid. The bulbs that survived the chipmunk attack made it through summer dormancy without issue. A couple put on a bit of green growth before things turned really cold, and I'm curious to see how those green bits make it through the winter.
I don't think cool enough would be a problem in PA though. A tarp covering the container should be enough to keep them dry. I'd like to try them here in Ontario, but I can't find anyone who has them in cultivation anymore.
