I got a Calanthe rubens with interesting hour-glass shaped bulbs. The thinnest part of the bulb is extremely brittle, so the slightest pressure would snap it in half. That's what happened to one of the bulbs (oops)--it broke cleanly in half.
I heard the upper half of the bulb has the ability to produce a new plant, but I haven't been able to find much information about how to do so. Well, currently the bulb just looks like a cleanly broken off bulb--no growing points, no roots, etc. What kind of mix should I use? Should I bury the bulb or just lay it on the surface? What about water and light?
Thanks!
