Notylia barkeri / trisepala distinction?
I just had Notylia barkeri flower again, and have a Notylia trisepala in spike (first time), wondered what the flower may look like of trisepala, and got some confusing info off orchidspecies.com re distinction of the two.
Orchidspecies lists both species, but under barkeri it states that there is talk of separating barkeri into two (trisepala vs. tridachne) based on lateral sepals being free or joint. I can't see the difference on the photos of barkeri and trisepala (both are supposed to be free sepals). The most noticeable difference is the pattern of the orange dots, though I wonder how much intraspecific variability there is.
And then tridachne is listed as synonym of sagittifera. (???)
If barkeri is the sensu lato version of trisepala vs tridachne/sagittifera, then one of the sensu stricto species should still be barkeri, as it is the oldest name.
All very confusing. Kew list is down right now.
Anybody have some comment/experience/further info?
