Default ROOTS!!

Did some repotting today and discovered that I do have a few plants with roots.

Took several minutes to get that one out of the pot and another 20 or so to get them medium out of the root ball. Went from a 4 inch pot to a deep 6 inch.

Don't have the name of this cross handy, but there was about 20 pieces of medium left in the rootball.

Don't know if you noticed, but the flower you see and two others grew with no spike. They just popped out of the side of the p bulb.

I have a vaguely similar plant and the spikes pop out the side of the pseudobulb - guess yours decided throwing up an actual spike was too much like hard work!

I hate repotting things - always terrified of setting the plant back by digging all the old medium out. Crazy how often there's a ball of sphag deeeeep in there somewhere.

I'm thinking inorganic media like hydroton are going to feature more and more heavily in my collection. not rotting == less repotting!

All those roots show that you've been giving that orchid excellent care. Good Job.

Don't you mean you discovered that you have roots with a few plants attached to them?

Very healthy looking plants, you must have learned how to care for them properly. Congrats!

For some reason, when looking at the second picture, I get a craving for pasta...

Call me weird, but I find repotting exciting. It's like christmas you never know what you are going to see when you pull it out (unless of course you grow in clear pots). Once I repotted a specimen Den. kingianum in a 12" shallow pot and when I pulled out the plant there was a family of mice living inside - momma papa and 4 babies. They chewed a little nest in the rootball, but you would have never guessed as the plant still looked as spectacular as ever up above.
