Ludisia discolor
This terrestrial orchid usually blooms in early spring. My plant is spiking. There are several jewel orchids available here, but among them, Ludisia discolor is the easiest one to grow and it tolerates lower humidity while is grown outdoors.

Rosie and Bud, do you grow your plants in the soil?
I use peat moss as its medium, but i have seen some plants grown in the soil.

Mine are growing in potting compost mixed with perlite and large bark... but it's mostly the potting compost/soil.
When I bought it it was just in soil, but I was worried by that and added the bark and perlite early on. Then when I divided it into three plants I used a similar mix. All three plants have done well that way for about 18 months and seem to grow really well.
I do let it dry out between watering, being an orchid I'm always wary of rotting roots, but I find this pretty easy to grow.

I find these pretty easy and they can almost be treated as an ordinary house plant. I keep mine in an east window but in this country that's not overly bright. I water when the soil dries out and they have my standard house temps.

I grow my plant outdoors with my Chinese Cymbidiums. The species likes humidity and weak light level. As for the temperature, it is a cool to warm grower. If it gets to hot, the leaves get dehydrated easily.
