Be sure to let the cut sections dry for a few days to callous so they don't rot. A little rooting hormone also helps to initiate roots.

Not thought of that, I think I do it anyway without meaning to. Usually in my case the pieces have fallen off, rather than been cut and I leave them lying around a few days simply because I don't get around to doing anything with them straight away. I'll have to remember to do it purposefully in the future

I have a plant that I have had for a number of years that just seemed to languish and never did really well. I re-potted it in mid summer using quality long fiber sphagnum moss. It stays very moist but never soggy and I am amazed how it has improved. A friend of mine has one growing in her kitchen window for years in plain water and it looks good.

Should work Va.orchids. This plant seems to have the ability to absorb moisture through the succulent stems even without the help of roots. Let us know your results.
