Phaiocalanthe Kryptonite 'Ursula' AM/AOS
This grex is so easy to grow. I grow 3 clones. 'Ursula' is less vigorous than the 2 others but it is a real beauty. Anyway the 2 other plant grow too fast. I don't have room for very large plants!

Love it! This might be something I could grow in my conditions. Does it tolerate any warmth in summer?

I have mine on S/H(flushed every 2 weeks)...warm(80F day and 65F at night) bright south side window and humidified; fertilizer alternating with seaweed mix and worm tea mix...I pretty much leave it alone and never fussed with it

The side shots of the lip are really nice. The white against that purple is beautiful!

You would grow these in similar conditions as you would a phaius as it is a cross between the Phaius and Calanthe (which is fairly closely related). While not being as large as a Phaius, they do grow rapidly and are terresterial based orchids. They can stand temperatures into the mid to lower 40's and upwards into the 90's and low 100's (provided they have some good shade and air flow). While they do love a lot of light, the hotter it gets the more protection it will need. People in Florida grow these outdoors year round along with Phaius.
Hope that helps address your question silken. I think you would be able to do this particular orchid or one in the Phaius family. BTW, one of my two Phaius' has 6 leaf growths this year, so that means I should be seeing a potential of 12 spikes from it, each measuring about 4 to 5 feet tall and between 50 to 60 flowers. That would be a grand total of about 500 to 600 flowers off of one plant. I LOVE Phaius' for this - but Calanthe's will not produce that many flowers per spike. You might want to look into both Calanthe and Phaius to see which you prefer and also see what sizes they are.

Great growing BTW - lol... I just woke up and I'm not awake yet. I meant to start off with that then I got caught up on answering silken.
My Phaiocalanthe only has one leaf growth as it is a baby, but it has 3 spikes this year! Yippeeeee!!!!
Thanks for sharing your photo - makes me that more excited to see my own bloom this year!
