Thanks Bud and Paul. I'm not sure how easily I will find one like this in Canada, but I see cloud's has a couple of Calanthe. They are now on my list! I get very warm temps in the summer and quite cool in the greenhouse in the winter. I likely only have space for one, but may get it someday!

Since space is an issue, I'd go with the calamthe, but even these can get wide over several years, just not as tall as phaius will.

You might look for one at your next/nearest orchid show and sale. That's where I found mine.

Good idea! Funny how enabling this site is
I read and surf and figure, I am aware of all of the types of orchids that I like or care to try growing. And then one photo on here and I have to add another genus or species to my list!

I live in Canada. I bought my 3 clones from Cloud's Orchids. I also saw Kryptonite frome an another Ontario Glower this year (don't remember who...).
They can grow in rather warm temps in summer and cooler in winter (min is 13 C). I grow mine in ProMix.

I contacted Cloud's but they sold out of those several years ago.

Gorgeous! It is the most beautiful Phaiocalanthe that I have ever seen.

Wow! that's gorgeous! I love the color of 'Ursula'
I have a 'Bloodbath' (gah! I hate that name!), but have struggled with it - under watered in summer, over watered in winter *sigh* - good news tho that it's refused to die despite my inexpert care of it - hoping to get it right soon!
